Day 16: High winds, negative temps, snow, broken tent poles and did we mention lots of snow?

Ghunsa 3595m - 13 March 2017

Back at Ghunsa huddled round the wood stove, a blessed bit of comfort after the last few days, which saw us held up in our tents for a day at Lonak due to high winds and snow and -15 deg overnight, high winds and snow put the tents to the test, unfortunately one broken tent pole and pierced outer sheet, and lots of snow inside on every entry and exit.

Having been held up for a day due to the weather. Rather than camping at Kanchenjunga Base Camp, we made a long day trip from Lonak yesterday, which was hard work in the fresh snow and altitude, but good to finally reach the starting point of the GHT.

Today, to put us back on schedule, we descended from Lonak, lunching at Khambachen. Another long day on the trail, tomorrow we head towards our first pass, the Nango La.

Dema mes neu!!!
